The Meaning of My Name!

I recetly ran across this piece of explanation for 'Manoj'. I've myself been for long wondering what my name means. Maybe this piece could throw a light on it. So for all you people who were wondering what my name is, I give this..

The word 'Manoj' is a 'samaasa' (compound word) in Sanskrt. (To be specific, it is Avayeebhaava samaasa).

It derives from the explanation: 'manasi jaatah it Manojah', meaning “he is born in the mind, hence he is

'Manoj'”. When expanded:
Manasi = in the mind
jaatah = borniti = therefore/that's why/hence
Manojah = he is Manoj

It is used often as a reference to Kaamdev (the God of Love, in Hindu mythology, who was burned to ashes by Lord Shiva's third eye). It is said that Lord Kaama was born in the mind (of Lord Brahma, the creator).The misconception that the meaning of the name Manoj is Maruti/Hanuman is because of a shloka that goes: 'MANOJavam maaruta tulyavegam jitendriyam budhdhimataam variSHTham, vaataatmajam vaanarayoota mukhyam ShreeRaama dootam shirasaa namaami/sharaNam prapadye'.

Please note that here Lord Hanuman is just being described as as a person who was born from the meeting of the minds of Anjanaadevi and Lord Vaayu (the Lord of Wind/Air). It also means that Lord Hanuman is a 'Trikaala Gnyaani' (a person with the knowledge of the past, the present, and the future).A broader meaning for the name/word Manoj could be that 'Manoj' refers to anything born in the mind: an emotion, a thought, a feeling, an idea, a situation, or for that matter, 'God' him/herself, who is said to be the greatest creation of the Human Mind.If you wish to refer further to the meaning of the word/name Manoj please read 'Amarakosha', a book/treatise that is the final word on the meaning of words in Sanskrt. A verse in it goes thus: 'Manojah, Madanah, Maarah, Kaamadevah...' meaning, the names of Kaamdev are Manoj, Madan, Maara, etc.Further, the equivalent of the word Manoj in Western Mythology is 'Cupid' (the angel of Love with flowery bow and arrows).

Above all, I call upon all of you to be really proud and happy to be bearers of this name, for it means so much. For me, being Manoj means being a 'man of God'.
